MESSAGE FROM YOUR CAPTAINS
What an exciting time to be involved with Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club!
Golf Clubs are well known for their reputations and their traditions but these can take a long time to build. Stoneleigh Deer Park is coming of age in several areas. As a social club for its members Stoneleigh has an enviable reputation as a friendly club that raises significant funds for a range of charities. As a competitive golfing club Stoneleigh “arrived” at the end of 2009 when the scratch league team beat more than 3,000 club sides to win the Mail on Sunday Champions in Spain. The team contained a former club captain and a Stoneleigh junior who had literally grown up at the Club!
Many congratulations to the team of Neville Gardner, Will Smith, Mark & Steve Woolerton, Sean Young and Team Captain Ron Edmondson.
From a golfing perspective the course goes from strength to strength. Year by year the course has been improving and now the Club has the green light to develop the course further with the introduction of three new holes. The work on the new holes has already begun and we look forward to watching this beautiful location develop into an even more spectacular golfing venue.
Our captain’s chosen charity for this year is Acorns. Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust is a registered charity established in 1983 offering a network of care to life limited children and support for their families across the heart of England. Acorns has three hospices situated in Walsall Worcester and Birmingham (which takes children from the Warwickshire area) and a community team that offers practical and emotional support to families in their homes 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Throughout the coming year there will be numerous golfing and social events which will enable you to support this worthwhile charity and have some fun at the same time.
As captains – Denis, Ann, Martin and Charlie look forward to meeting you and helping you to enjoy your membership at the Club.
So in a year when Celtic Manor hosts the Ryder Cup in Wales we all look forward to some sunshine, mixing with friends (old & new) and the golf that we all know we are capable of!
Enjoy your year!
