Winter League Finals Day - Results

A total of 32 teams took part in the Winter League Finals Day on Sunday 28th February 2009. Format on the day was Betterball Stableford, with the winning score of 46 points, closely pipping three pairs all on 45 points .  Second, third and fourth places were all down to countback of scores.

Valentines Scramble 13/14 February - Results

The Annual Valentines Scramble took place on 13th & 14th February with a total of 19 teams participating in the competition.  Congratulations to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners who receive vouchers. The winning team consisting of Andy Cutting, John Howe, Dave Munday and Simon Roberts with a score of 56.5 beat the runners-up Mark Woolerton, Chris Dougill, Will Smith and Kevin Ariss by a mere 1/10th of a point. Third place with a score of 57.1 was the team of Ray Stringer, Ade Goodall, John Usher & Ron Pegler.

Congratulations to the Champions!!!

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club's team clinched the victory in the final of The Mail on Sunday Classic at El Rompido in Andalucia, Spain on Saturday 28th November 2009, with a win over Moor Park Golf Club (3 1/2 to 1 1/2).

Non-playing Team Captain, Ron Edmondson stated; It is such an accolade and tremendous achievement for Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club to become the Champions of The Mail on Sunday National Golf Classic 2009.  It is not just a win for the team but a win for the Members and Golf Club too! The lads were really magnificent.  This is a real milestone for Stoneleigh - I am still having to pinch myself to realise that we have actually pulled it off!!

At the beginning of the 2009 season there were over 3,000 teams nationally taking part , all playing for the coveted Winner's Trophy and a chance of playing the Finals in Spain.  Stoneleigh Deer Park's team played their way through the rounds, these were initially local, regional, national and then onto Quarter Finals in September.  It was there our win over Lymm GC at Worsley Park GC, Manchester clinched our place in Spain for the November Semis & Final. 

There were good performances from the Woolerton Brothers, Mark & Steve in the semi-final and solid performances in both games by Neville Gardner & Shaun Young – both being the rock & backbone of the team.

Steve Woolerton almost pulled off a remarkable win against John Aldridge (+1 player), he was 4 down through 5 holes and pulled back to A/S halving the match.

Mark Woolerton also played a fantastic game against Nick Algate (scratch player) although he finished 2 down, he was 4 up at one stage in the match, then Nick got his game back and slowly pegged back into the game to win.

Neville Gardner was playing 6th hole, in rough greenside, he couldn’t see the pin, he chipped up to within 3” of the hole .  Shot of the weekend!!!  Throughout the tournament Neville only lost 1 game, he gained the nickname of ‘Mr Steady’

Shaun Young earned the nickname ‘Mr Cool’, he had an outstanding competition, all through the rounds has not lost a game.  After a solid start with birdies in 1st two holes, his game against Danny West got progressively better, and by the 12th hole he was 6 up, took his foot off the pedal a little and won 4 & 3.

Will Smith, the youngest player in the squad, just 18 yrs old made history for Stoneleigh in the final by holing the winning putt on the 18th green.

Ron stated that the scores don’t reflect how close the games were, some excellent golf was played throughout the final by both teams.

Ron Edmondson, Team Captain would like to thank John & Cherry Reay and Avon Timber for their sponsorship of the team also their Mascot & Caddy, Johnny Reay (Junior Captain) and to the Caddies ( Ken Wykes - Club Captain, John Lewis, Kevin Ariss and Harry Smith) &  all  the supporters who travelled to Spain to cheer them on to the tremendous win. Thanks also to Chris Dougill, Andy Richter & Ron Edmondson who played their part early on in the preceding rounds.

A very Special thank you to the Mail on Sunday  who organised the competition, especially Victoria who managed the travel arrangements and the looked after team whilst in Spain.  The Staff of El Rompido Golf Course & Hotel provided a superb course and an excellent service to our team, caddies and supporters over the whole weekend.

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club team have won their Semi Finals match today against Parkstone Golf Club out at El Rompido Golf Club in Spain.  Our team will be playing Moor Park Golf Club in the Finals, which is due to be played tomorrow (Saturday 28th November).

The Warwickshire Cup 2009 - Match Result

Another win for the Scratch Team!!!

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club scratch team played against a squad from Olton Golf Club at Stoneleigh Deer Park GC on Sunday 8th November 2009, in the Warwickshire Cup Knock Out Foursomes competition.

The Stoneleigh Deer Park GC team consisting of the pairings:  Shaun Young & Mark Woolerton, Ron Edmondson (Team Captain) & Steve Woolerton and Neville Gardner & Will Smith.  The result of the Foursomes match was 2/1 to Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club.

SDPGC TEAM WIN THROUGH TO FINALS OF THE MAIL ON SUNDAY NATIONAL GOLF CLUB CLASSIC 2009

Congratulations on the 3 / 2 Win !!!!!!!

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club’s scratch team, captained by Ron Edmondson travelled to Worsley Park Golf & Country Club, Manchester to play in the Quarter Finals of the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic 2009 on Monday 28th September, where Stoneleigh were drawn to play against Lymm Golf Club.

Will Smith, the youngest team member went out first resulting in a comfortable win. The match result went all square after Steve Woolerton’s game.  Neville Gardner pulled the team back into the match with another comfortable win, followed by a spirited game from Mark Woolerton.  Once again the match result was all square.  It was now down to the last player Shaun Young who was 2 down with 9 holes to play, he got Stoneleigh back into the lead by the 14th hole only to lose the 17th hole.  The final result now rested  on the 18th hole, Shaun managed a magnificent Birdie, winning the game and the match for Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club.  That doesn’t tell the whole story, Stoneleigh’s opponents Lymm Golf Club put up a fantastic fight throughout. Commiserations to the team from Lymm Golf Club. 

The achievement of Stoneleigh Deer Park golf club getting to the Quarter finals was amazing to be in the last 8 teams out of a total of over 3,000 teams at the beginning of the season.  The Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club team have reached a milestone in the club’s history and are off to southern Spain, the Hotel & Golf El Rompido to play in the Mail on Sunday National Club Classic Final in November (25th to 29th).

Supporters are most welcome to travel to Spain to cheer on the Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club team.

Congratulations to the team on reaching the Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic Final.  Good Luck in the Finals!!!

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club's  Mail on Sunday team successfully captained by Ron Edmondson has won through to the Quarter FInals to be held on Monday 28th September at the Marriott Worsley Golf & Country Club in Manchester.

Round 7 was played against Shirley Golf Club at home and the team managed a 4 / 1 win taking them through to Round 8 which was played on Sunday 30th August at home against Burslem Golf Club, from Stoke-on-Trent with a winning score of 3 1/2   / 1 1/2.

The Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic Tournament is a knock-out competition which started back in April  2009 with a total of over 3000 teams taking part nationally, is now down to the last 8 teams, Stoneleigh Deer Park being one of them. 

The team consists of:  Ron Edmondson (Captain), Steve Wollerton, Mark Woolerton, Neville Gardner, Shaun Young, Will Smith & Chris Dougill..

Congratulations lads for such a great achievement and Good Luck in the Quarter Finals at Manchester, from all the Members of Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club!!!

Mail on Sunday Classic – Round 6

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club v Mid Herts GC.....

Result:  Win to SDPGC - played Sunday 19th July 2009

 It was a very tight game throughout. Chris Dougill, playing off 1 (currently been in USA on scholarship...going to Tennessee in Autumn) was 3 down with 3 to play....went Par, Birdie, Birdie to get our fist half point. Then Neville Gardner was Dormie 3, wins his game 2 up. Ron Edmondson losing his match at 5 / 4, at this point Teams all square at: 1.5 / 1.5.   Steve Woolerton losing his match 2 down after being 4 down with 6 holes to play... Mark Woolerton (his brother) wins his match on 18th hole taking score for teams to 2.5 / 2.5.....forcing the play off holes.

In comes our hero, Neville Gardner....playing 2 hcp....receiving 4 shots off his opponent (+2 hcp).  First hole was halved, both having putts to win, as was 2nd hole.....3rd hole Neville receiving a shot, stroke index 4 hole...both players missing the fairway...also missing the green with 2nd shots under tremendous pressure.  Both players making green with 3rd shots,...Neville is 1st to putt...14 feet away...just misses...marks his ball...opponent has 8 feet putt , he misses and Neville sinks a 2 1/2 foot  putt to win the hole 5 net 4 to win the match in a very exciting finish.

 Summary on Neville Gardner, Chris Dougill & Ron Edmondson, all represent the Warwickshire County Golf scene.  Chris Dougill currently representing County 1st team, Neville Gardner County Seconds, Ron  Edmondson  County Seniors and Midlands Seniors.

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club would like to thank the Mid Herts Golf Club for their hospitality and making the SDPGC team welcome.

Our team played in the 3rd round of the Mail on Sunday , National Golf Club Classic 2009 at The Chase Golf Club in Cannock.  The team skippered by Ron Edmondson, consisted of:  Andy Richter, Shaun Young, Neville Gardner, Will Smith and Ron Edmondson resulted in a 3 / 2 Win for SDPGC.

Result of the Final -The Warwickshire v Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club, with The Warwickshire taking the Trophy for the 3rd time in four years.

The Warwickshire Cup Winter Knock-Out Semi -Final Results

The Semi-final of the Warwickshire Cup Winter knock-out competition was played at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club on Saturday 12st February 2009.  The semi-final match was between Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club and Hearsall Golf Club.
