Junior Section - Charity Quiz Night - 28th October 2011
The Junior Charity Quiz Night was a huge success and gained many plaudits. Congratulations to the Crossley Family for setting the thought - provoking questions, and Jack's whimsical shots of the Course were inspired, with not even the owner, nor the groundsman present, recognising all the scenes! A total of £480.00 was raised for the Captains' Charity - Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
The winning (very vocal) team was 'Woodsies'.
Many thanks to all those who supported the Juniors and took part.

Juniors & Stags Am Am - Thursday 27th October
Despite the rain and cold conditions on the day, the Juniors and Stags turned oiut to play their Am Am on Thursday 27th October, with some very good scores returned.
The winning team of Lewis Martin, Ben Kirby, Dick Brown & Nigel Palmer took 1st prize with a score of 127 points. Second place with 123 points was the team of Corey McDonagh,Cameron Gardner and Keith James, who just narrowly beat into 3rd place the team of Ben Charley, Luke Greene, George Dick and Johnny Reay.
The Juniors were also awarded prizes for the Best score on all the Par 3's, Par 4's and Par 5's, which went to James Moriarty with 19 points (Par 3's), Cameron Gardner also 19 points (Par 4's) and Charlie Dunn with 12 points (Par 5's).
Well done to everyone and a big thank you for taking part in such wet and wintry conditions.
PAR 3 Championship -Juniors and Fawns - 26th October
The Par 3 Championship for Junior / Fawns played on 26th October, began with a klaxon for the shotgun start.with a very a good turnout of youngsters. Although the day was cool, the sun managed to shine through and everyone had a good time. There was exceptional golf played by all along with some tremendouse scores carded.
Trophies were presented to the winners and vouchers were presented to the winners and rinners-up.

A big thank you to Jeanette Jackson (Junior Organiser), Brian Tasker (Club President) and Alan Wild for organising and supervising the Par 3 Championship, and of course to the juniors and fawns who took part in the competition.
2 Ball Scramble - 25th October
The Junior 2 Ball Scramble competition was held on Tuesday 25th October with a total of 14 juniors taking part. Despite the late afternoon showers the teams were not deterred and some very good scores were carded.
Gross Winners – Jack Crossley & Kirtus Grimmett with 74 gross
Nett Winners – Harry Smith & Harriet Dunn with 68 nett
Congratulations and well done to the winners. A big thank you to everyone who played in the competition and especially to the sponsor of the competition, Mrs Julie Charley and also for donating the trophies which were presented to the winners by Ben and Tom Charley.
Tasker Trophy - 10th August
The Tasker Trophies were presented by Mr Brian Tasker (Club President) to the winners of the Fawns and Junior competitions which were held on Wednesday 10th August. The number of competitors and results were very good.
The winners of the Fawns Tasker Trophy for the Gross was James Moriarty and the nett prize was awarded to Thomas Whitfield.
The trophy for the Junior gross winner was presented to Luke Challis and the nett prize to Kirtus Grimmett.
Shane Gormley Memorial Trophy
On Wednesday 3rd August Mr Finbar Looney sponsor of the Shane Gormley Memorial Trophy competition presented the prizes to the winners. There were a large numbers of competitors for both the Fawns Par 3 course and the Juniors main course competitions.
With some very good scores carded on the day, the winners were Luke Pery - Fawns and Jack Crossley -Juniors.
John Sillett Cup - Juniors & Fawns - Weds 1st June
The John Sillett Cup was played on Wednesday 1st June with a very good turnout of both juniors and fawns.
Mr John Sillett a former football player and Manager of Coventry City FC who donated the trophies and competition sponsor was available on the day to present the trophies and prizes to the winners.
The Junior winner of the John Sillett Cup was Charlie Dunn and the Fawns winner was Cameron Gardner.
These trophies will be presented once again to Luke and Charlie at the Club Presentation evening - Friday 18th November

The Inaugural Avon Timber Par 3 Championship final took place on Friday 16th September, with the rocket signalling the commencement of the shotgun competition got underway. THE JUNIOR SECTION HAS HAD A TREMENDOUS YEAR, WITH ONE SUCCESS FOLLOWING ANOTHER THROUGHOUT THE SEASON. HANDICAPS HAVE BEEN IN ‘FREEFALL’ AND IT IS NO SURPRISE THAT THE TOP 10 NAMES ON THE CLUB’S ‘MOST IMPROVED GOLFER’ LIST ARE ALL JUNIORS - THEY CAN ALL BE JUSTIFIABLY PROUD.
OF PARTICULAR NOTE - BEN CHARLEY, TOM CHARLEY AND JOSH DAVENPORT WON THE LOCAL QUALIFYING ROUND OF THE ‘UNION OF GOLF CLUBS SCHOOLS COMPETITION’ AND PLAYED IN THE NATIONAL FINALS AT CAMEDOWN GOLF CLUB, DORSET.
THE SCHOOL TEAM OF TOM CHARLEY, JOSH DAVENPORT AND HARRY GARFORTH WON THE INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS NATIONAL FINAL AT LYTHAM IN JUNE.
COREY McDONAGH WON THE FINHAM JUNIOR OPEN - TOM CHARLEY WON THE WARWICKSHIRE AND SHIRLEY JUNIOR OPENS. JOHNNY REAY HAS AGAIN THIS YEAR COMPETED IN THE DISABLED GOLF OPEN, AND THIS MONTH HE HAS ACHIEVED HIS PGA LEVEL 1 COACHING CERTIFICATE. COREY AND CHARLIE CROSSLEY HAVE WON MAIN CLUB COMPETITIONS.
OF 52 ENTRANTS IN THE JOHN REAY JUNIOR OPEN 7 STONELEIGH JUNIORS RECEIVED PRIZES. TOM CHARLEY TOOK 8TH PLACE IN A LIST OF 216 ENTRIES IN THE 2010 WARWICKSHIRE UNION OF GOLF CLUBS JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT AND PLAYED IN THE FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP AT WEST MIDLANDS GOLF CLUB.
MANY OTHER JUNIORS HAVE ENTERED COUNTY EVENTS AND JUNIOR OPENS AROUND WARWICKSHIRE AND FURTHER AFIELD AND 14 STONELEIGH JUNIORS HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED ON THE COUNTY PARTNERSHIP COACHING ACADEMIES FOLLOWING ASSESSMENT DAYS.
THEY HAVE ALL ACQUITTED THEMSELVES WELL. CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM ALL.

ROCCO LUCA - ROCCO IS AGED 9 YEARS. HE JOINED THE FAWNS IN AUGUST OF LAST YEAR . HE HAS DONE WELL AND HAS NOW MOVED UP AS A JUNIOR ON THE MAIN COURSE, WHERE HE QUICKLY REDUCED HIS HANDICAP FROM 36 TO 28.

KIRTUS GRIMMETT - KIRTUS IS AGED ONLY 8 YEARS. HE ALSO JOINED IN AUGUST LAST YEAR, AND LIKE HIS FRIEND ROCCO, IS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH (THE AWESOME TWOSOME!) HE HAS ALSO BECOME A JUNIOR ON THE MAIN COURSE AND BOTH HE AND ROCCO HAVE PLAYED IN - AND WON - MATCHES IN THE ‘HOME’ AND ‘AWAY’ FRIENDLIES WITH OTHER LOCAL CLUBS.
FAWNS SHANE GORMLEY MEMORIAL TROPHY
YIANNIS VOGIARIDIS - AGED JUST 7 YEARS, YIANNIS COULDN’T WAIT TO JOIN HIS BROTHER PASCAL ON THE PAR THREE AND GET OUT TO PLAY. HE IS A LITTLE WHIRLWIND. HE HAS TREMENDOUS ENTHUSIASM, DOES WELL WITH HIS COACHING LESSONS AND WILL SOON BE MAKING HIS MARK.

ALEX HART - ALEX IS AGED 10 YEARS AND HAS BEEN A FAWN SINCE THE BEGINNING OF LAST YEAR. ALEX HAS PLAYED WELL THIS SEASON (ALONGSIDE HIS OTHER SPORTS). HE IS ALSO THE FAWNS NETT CLUB CHAMPION
COLLINGBOURNE SHIELD/FAWN OF THE YEAR
PASCAL VOGIARIDIS - PASCAL HAS BEEN A FAWN FOR 2 YEARS. HE IS AGED 10 YEARS. PASCAL HAS VERY REGULARLY PLAYED ON THE PAR THREE - HE IS VERY KEEN AND HAS BEEN A CONSISTANT COMPETITOR. HE LISTENS INTENTLY TO ALL HE IS TOLD, EXECUTES HIS SHOTS WELL AND WILL SOON BE READY TO PLAY ON THE MAIN COURSE. HE WELL DESERVES TO BE ‘FAWN OF THE YEAR’.

BEN CHARLEY - BEN WHO IS AGED 15 YEARS, JOINED THE JUNIOR SECTION IN 2009 AND STARTED OFF THIS SEASON AS ENTHUSIASTICALLY AS HE FINISHED LAST YEAR, BY WINNING THE JACKSON PLATE WITH 51 STABLEFORD POINTS - THUS STARTING THE TUMBLE IN HIS HANDICAP TO BE THE CLUB’S 2ND ‘MOST IMPROVED GOLFER’ OF THE YEAR.
JOHN SILLETT CUP
BEN CHARLEY ALSO WON THIS CUP WITH A SCORE OF 48 STABLEFORD POINTS. HE HAS HAD AN EXCELLENT SEASON.
MARGIE MORGAN CUP
CHARLIE DUNN - CHARLIE IS BUSY BEING AN ADMIRABLE JUNIOR CAPTAIN. HE WON THIS CUP WITH A NETT 61 SCORE -AND YET ANOTHER HANDICAP ON THE DOWNWARD SLIDE. IN ADDITION TO SUPPORTING THE JUNIORS AND FAWNS, CHARLIE - TOGETHER WITH JACK CROSSLEY THE JUNIOR VICE CAPTAIN, ORGANISED A VERY SUCCESSFUL ‘CHARITY QUIZ NIGHT’ IN OCTOBER WHICH RAISED £362 AS THE JUNIOR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ‘ACORNS’ CAPTAINS’ CHARITY.

TOM CHARLEY - TOM IS AGED 11 YEARS AND TOGETHER WITH BROTHER BEN, JOINED THE JUNIOR SECTION LAST YEAR. HE STARTED THE SEASON WITH A HANDICAP OF 30 AND AT THE LAST COUNT HE WAS PLAYING OFF 14. HIS ATTRIBUTES ARE CHRONICLED AT THE OUTSET OF THESE NOTES. HIS EXCEPTIONAL ABILITY HAS BEEN DULY NOTED BY THE COUNTY OFFICIALS. WHAT A PHENOMENAL RIDE HE HAS HAD!

JOHNNY REAY - JOHNNY HAS PLAYED EXCEEDINGLY WELL THIS YEAR AND, AS WITH OTHER JUNIORS, HIS HANDICAP HAS PLUNGED TO 16. IN THIS HIS FINAL JUNIOR YEAR, I WISH TO THANK JOHNNY FOR HIS CONTRIBUTION TO - AND SUPPORT OF THE JUNIOR SECTION. WILL THE CLUB PRESIDENT BRIAN TASKER PLEASE PRESENT HIS TROPHY TO JOHNNY.

JACK CROSSLEY - JACK IS JUNIOR VICE CAPTAIN AND IN CHARLIE’S ABSENCE HAS SUPPORTED AND HELPED THE JUNIOR SECTION. JACK IS THE CLUB’S 3RD ‘MOST IMPROVED’ PLAYER OF THE YEAR HAVING STARTED THE SEASON ON A HANDICAP OF 20 AND DECREASED IT TO AN IMPRESSIVE 13. HE HAS PLAYED EXTREMELY WELL THROUGHOUT IN ALL JUNIOR AND MAIN CLUB COMPETITIONS.
GIRLS’ PAR THREE CHAMPION
ZOE THOMAS - ZOE IS AGED 11 YEARS AND PLAYS VERY WELL. SHE WAS THE GIRLS’ JUNIOR DAILY MAIL QUALIFIER IN JULY AND HAS PLAYED IN THE JUNIOR TEAM EVENTS.

LUKE CHALLIS - LUKE IS AGED 12 AND IS ANOTHER JUNIOR WHO HAS DONE EXTREMELY WELL THIS YEAR. HE HAS ENTERED JUNIOR, CLUB, OPEN AND COUNTY COMPETITIONS AND AGAIN ANOTHER DROPPED HANDICAP FROM 18 TO 12 PUTTING LUKE IN 6TH POSITION ON THE CLUB’S LIST OF ‘MOST IMPROVED’ PLAYERS.

ROCCO LUCA - IN ADDITION TO HIS FAWNS TROPHIES, ROCCO IS ALSO NOW THE JUNIOR BOYS’ NETT CLUB CHAMPION. IN APRIL ROCCO ALSO RECEIVED THE CUP AS THE WINNER OF THE ‘AGED 8 & UNDER’ CATEGORY OF THE WARWICKSHIRE YOUNG MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIP.

EMILY BURNS - EMILY CANNOT BE HERE TONIGHT AS SHE IS IN CHINA PERFORMING IN SHAKESPEARE’S ROMEO AND JULIET TO AN AUDIENCE OF 10,000. IN ADDITION TO HER GOLFING PROWESS SHE IS A TALENTED YOUNG LADY WHO WRITES HER OWN MUSIC AND HAS PERFORMED AT THE O2 ARENA. DURING A LULL WHILE AWAITING THE RESULTS OF THE JOHN REAY OPEN, UPON REQUEST, SHE ENTERTAINED THE COMPETITORS WITH AN IMPROMPTU RENDITION OF HER SONGS.

THE CAPTAIN’S COMPETITION WAS WON BY CHARLIE CROSSLEY AND JOSH DAVENPORT. CHARLIE IS IN 4TH PLACE ON THE CLUB’S LIST OF ’MOST IMPROVED’ PLAYERS, HAVING REDUCED HIS HANDICAP FROM 36 AT THE START OF THE SEASON TO 26. CHARLIE PLAYS IN MAIN CLUB COMPETITIONS AND HE, LIKE OTHERS, HAS DONE WELL.

MANY OF YOU WILL KNOW THAT THE JUNIOR CAPTAIN AND JUNIOR VICE CAPTAIN, ORGANISED A CHARITY QUIZ NIGHT LAST MONTH, AS THE JUNIORS’ CONTRIBUTION TO THE CAPTAINS’ CHARITY ‘ACORNS HOSPICE’. THE EVENT RAISED £362 AND THE WINNERS OF THE QUIZ WERE OUR OWN VERY YOUNG EGGHEADS (WHO MIGHT JUST HAVE HAD A SMIDGEN OF HELP FROM THE REST OF THEIR TEAM - THE UNDERPARS) FAWN ANDREW DELLOW AND NEW FAWN MATTHEW LEATHERDALE.

2011 Junior Open & Daily Telegraph Qualifier - Entry Forms available
The Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club Junior Open and Daily Telegraph Qualifier is scheduled for Thursday 28th July 2011. The 18 hole full handicap medal compeition is sponsored by The John Ray Golf Centre, entry forms are now availlable from the Clubhouse foyer or can be downloaded from the Open competitions section of our website. Places are limited so early booking is advisable.

2011 Warwickshire Young Masters Tournament 2011 - Entry Forms available
The Warwickshire Young Masters Tournament in association with WUGC and WLCGA entry form is now availble in the Clubhouse foyer or to download from the SDPGC website (Open Competition section). This tournament is scheduled for Thursday 14th April 2011, it is an 18 hole medal on the Stoneleigh Par 3 Avon Course and an 18 hole putting competition.. It is open to all young golfers (Boys & Girls) aged under 12 from all affiliated golf clubs and all County driving ranges are . Players Golf handicaps are NOT required

Tom Charley qualifies for Junior Order of Merit Championship
One of our Stoneleigh Deer Park GC Juniors, Tom Charley has qualified to play in the 2010 Junior Order of Merit Championship which is to take place on Saturday 16th October at The West Midlands Golf Club. Congratulations Tom on your achievement!!! Good Luck on Saturday!!!!

RESULTS
Congratultaions to the Winners of the 2010 Golf Foundation Foursomes competition, Harry Smith and Lewis Martin took 1st place with a tremendous score of 43 points just beating Raj Kanabar and Carl Stanford into 2nd place with 40 points. 3rd prize went to Rocco Luca and John McDonagh with 33 points. A big thank you to everyone who took part in the foursomes competition.

John Sillett Cup - Results of 2nd June
Soaring temeratures - Tumbling handicaps!!!
The John Sillett Cup was competed for by 14 eager juniors taking advantage of the sunshine to show off their skills which reflected in the final scores. It was fortuitous that John Sillett was on hand to present the winner with his trophy.
3rd Place went to Harry Smith with a score of 45 stableford points beating the Junior Captain Chalrie Dunn with 44 points in 4th place.
Two juniors came in with a tremendous score of 48 points and on count-back Ben Charley won the John Sillett Cup with Jack Crossley in 2nd place.
This topped off the run of high scoring competitions for Ben Charley bringing his handicap down to 20.5.
Earlier in the day the the Fawns played on the Avon Course and Rocco Luca won the Fawns John Sillett Cup with a gross 35 and new fawn, Ben Kirby with the Best Nett of 21.
Warwickshire Schools Competition @ Rugby GC - 6th April
On Tuesday 6th April, Rugby Golf Club hosted the Warwickshire Schools Competition, which was the 'Qualifier' for The English Schools Association - National Schools Team Championship.
Stoneleigh Junior members -Ben Charley - Tom Charley - Joshua Davenport qualified as a 'Team' from King Henry VIII School, Coventry to represent Warwickshire in the Finals to take place at Came Down Golf Club, Dorchester, Dorset on the 7th July 2010.
Stoneleigh Junior Members, brothers Ben & Tom Charley clinched 1st and 2nd Place followed by George Gill from the Warwickshire in 3rd place.
1st Place: Ben Charley with Gross 92 (Nett 60)
2nd Place: Tom Charley with Gross 95 (Nett 61)
3rd Place: George Gill from The Warwickshire with Gross 84 (Nett 63)
Congratulations to Ben, Tom and Joshua for qualifying for the finals in July.
