Seniors Open 2016

Stoneleigh hosted the Senior Open on Thursday 18th August, where a total of 88 teams took part.

A breakdown of the top 7 teams are below with full results on the link:

1st Place - With 47 points Terry Monnington & J Rushton from The Warwickshire

2nd Place - With 46 points Neville Burton from Stoneleigh Deer Park & Chris Price from Market Harborough

3rd Place - With 46 points Ted Jasinski & Barry McVeigh from Stoneleigh deer Park

4th Place - With 45 points S Spooner & B King from Ansty

5th Place - With 45 points John Stranks from Kenilworth & Frankie Heydari from The Warwickshire

6th Place - With 45 points Paul Abbott & Roy Pickering from Stoneleigh Deer Park

7th Place - With 44 points Peter Hall & Trevor Sherrington from Wellingborough

Ladies Am Am - Thursday 13th August

Stoneleigh hosted the Annual Ladies Am Am Open on Thursday 13th August, with a total of 23 teams taking part.  With the best 2 scores to count on all but the 18th hole whereby 3 scores counted, there were some very good, close scores carded despite the very mixed weather conditions.

Nearest the Pin prizes were won by Kathy Goddard from The Warwickshire (9th hole) and Judy Walter from Coventry Finham (15th hole).  The Longest Drive on the 10th hole was awarded to Lorraine Gilder from Northampton Golf Club.

There were a total of 12 two's: Kathy Goddard, Rona Varney, Chris Sutcliffe, Avril McLeod, Sue Avison (2), Karen McKenna, Sarah Barry, Jenny Holt, Gillian Harris, Sue Power and Belinda Court.

After countback on 83 points, 3rd place was awarded to the team of Olly Hickman, Sue Avison, Charlie Astbury and Lorraine Gilder, all from Northampton GC.

The Runners up prize went to Jacqui Smith, Pat Caley, Caroline Rhodes and Kathy Goddard, all from The Warwickshire Golf Club.

Congratulations to the winning team with 84 points, Sue Russell ( Great Barr GC), Anne Deakin (Walmley GC), Margaret Stokes (Pype Hayes GC) and Sarah Barry (Great Barr GC).

Well done ladies!!!  Thank you to everyone who took part in the day making it a successful one.

A big thank you to the starters on the day.

The raffle held raised a total of £282.00 for the Captain's Charity, 'Macmillan Cancer Support'. Thank you to all the ladies who supported this raffle.

Seniors Open - Results

Stoneleigh hosted the Annual Men's Seniors Open on Thursday 20th August, with a full field of 180 players taking part in the Pairs Betterball Stableford.

Congratulations to the overall winners Mick Jephcott and Tony Britton, both members of Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club, scoring a total of 43 points.

Runners Up by just one point, was the pairing of Ray Stringer and Nick Kirby also from Stoneleigh Deer Park GC with 42 stableford points.

Rick Pedrick and Mick Brown, also from Stoneleigh Deer Park GC took 3rd prize, with their score of 41 points.

After count back, 4th place was awarded to Anthony Wilks and Michael O'Toole from Whetstone GC and 5th place to Brian Hick and Graham Miles from Stoneleigh, both with a score of 40 points.

With a total of 11 pairs scoring 39 points,after count backs,  6th place went to Barry McVeigh and Ted Jasinski of Stoneleigh and 7th prize awarded to Brendan Nunan and Mike Hoey from Painswick Golf Club.

Nearest the Pin: 9th hole - Howard Pettifer (Brampton Heath); 11th hole - Graham Miles (Stoneleigh); 13th hole - Neville Burton (Stoneleigh); 15th hole: Don Stanley (Leamington & County)

Longest Drive on 10th hole was Chris Peake (Kenilworth)

There were 11 two's in total.

Warwickshire Young Masters Tournament - Thursday 28th May

Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club hosted the 10th Anniversary Annual Warwickshire Young Masters Tournament in association with WUGC and WLCGA on Thursday 28th March 2015.

With a total of 48 young golfers taking part in the Par 3 medal and putting competitions, there were 13 players in the 8 years & under category  who played 9 holes and 35 in the 9/10/11 years age group who played 18 holes. 

The WYM competition was open to all young golfers, boys and girls, living in Warwickshire aged under 12 years of age. This incorporated players from all affiliated Warwickshire County Golf Clubs as all County Driving Ranges. The Tournament is a showcase for Junior talent, with County Officials observing throughout the day.

Congratulations to  Owen Shaw from Hatchford Brook, who was awarded the  "President's Cup" and a John Reay voucher for £25 for the "Best Overall Score" of 70

After count back for 3 way tie of 84, the "WLCGA Cup" was presented to Katie Drew along with a John Reay voucher for £15 for winning the 'Best Girl' category. Katie's back nine score was 40 and also from Hatchford Brook.  In 2nd place in the 'Best Girl' category was Laura Smitten from Robin Hood GC with her score of 84 with her back nine score of 42.  Laura also received a John Reay voucher for the value of £10.  After count back between Phoebe Machin and Victoria Beard (Shirley GC) both scoring 90, Phoebe Machin from Kenilworth with back nine score of 43 was awarded 3rd prize in the 'Best Girl' category and was presented with a John Reay voucher for the value of £5.

In the 9-10-11 Age Group, after count back for 1st and 2nd places with scores of 71, Alex Morrison from Robin Hood GC was presented with the "Cup" plus a John Reay voucher for the value of £20 as 1st prize winner, with 2nd place awarded to Liam Scagell from Ladbrook Park GC who received John Reay voucher for the value of £15.  Sachin Kohli from The Warwickshire GC won 3rd prize of John Reay voucher for the value of £10 for his score of 72.

In the 8 Years & Under Group, (9 holes only), Noah Topping from Leamington & County GC was presented with the "Cup" and a John Reay voucher for the value of £20, for his score of 44. In 2nd place was Aran Everill from Robin Hood GC who scored 45 received John Reay voucher for the value of £15.  3rd prize of a John Reay voucher for the value of £10 was awarded to Harry Hartle from Ladbrook Park GC with his score of 46.

The winners of the Putting Competition each received a sleeve of golf balls as prizes.  All Age Groups, in joint 1st place with 34 were Robyn Sharp (Leamington & County GC) and Alex Morrison (Robin Hood GC).  In joint 2nd place the winners with 35 were Luie Bould (Copt Heath GC), George Beaumont (Coventry GC) and Laura Smitten (Robin Hood GC).

In the 8 years & under category Ryan Gavin (Coventry GC) won 1st prize with 38 and after count back Aran Everill (Robin Hood GC) took 2nd place with 39.

Thank you to Jeanette Jackson (SDPGC Junior Organiser), all of the Helpers and Chaperones from SDPGC and other Golf Clubs and the representatives from the  WUGC and WLCGA.  Attendees for the presentation were Brian Tasker (President SDPGC), Ralph Hiatt (Junior Vice Captain, SDPGC), Sheila Rennolds (Lady Captain, SDPGC), John Jewsbury, John Simpson, Dick Ferry (WUGC), Jane Dennick (President WLGCA) and Karen Kean (County Captain WUGCA). John Jewsbury presented trophies to the boys and Jane Dennick to the girls.

A very big Thank you goes to all of the competitors who took part and for making the day possible.  We hope to see you back again in May 2016.

Stoneleigh’s New Year Seniors Open winners were the pairing of Martin Stanley & Brian Johnston from Hilltop GC with their score of 40 points

Runners-up  with  39 points were M Hancox & K Rae from Newbold GC.

3rd place was awarded to Ron Edmondson & John Usher, both from Stoneleigh with 38 points

4th place on count back was won with 36 points by Reg Dann & Graham Murdoch from Stoneleigh

 Nearest the Pin prizes were won by R Edmondson (9th), A Hewitt (11th), G Murdoch (13th) and Longest Drive on 10th by G Murdoch

Two’s were won by M Hancox, J Usher, M Troune & J Clewes

Stoneleigh hosted their November Seniors Pairs Open on Thursday 13th November.  The weather was kind to all the entrants, not a drop of rain!!!

Congratulations to the winners John Corocoran from Stoneleigh Deer Park GC and Malcolm Stubbs of Redditch GC with their tremedous score of 43 points.  After count back the Runners-up were the pairing of Richard Hayward & Russell Matthews from  Studley Wood GC and in 3rd place were Martin Stanley & Brian Johnstone from Hilltop GC, both with scores of 40 points.

Nearest the Pins on 9th hole was won by Gordon Mathias and the 15th hole by Ray Stringer, both from Stoneleigh Deer Park GC.  Longest Drive on 10th hole was awarded to David Reason from Calderfields GC.

There were 10 two's carded on the day!

There were as total of 21 teams taking part in the Ladies Autumn Open. Although there was a delay during the day whereby a thunder and lightning storm brought competitors off the course for a period of time, the players were allowed back out to complete their rounds.  The winning score was carded by the 19th team of the day!

Congratulations to the winning team of Kully Wain (SDPGC Lady Captain) and her fellow team members, Jenny Arnold also from Stoneleigh and guests Ros Jones and Belinda Court with their score of 95 points

Count back was required for the prizes for 2nd and 3rd places.  2nd place was awarded to the team of Alison Picken, Barbara King, Julie Hunt & Isobel Coughlan all from Kibworth GC and in 3rd place were Pat Johnson, Mary Ironmonger, Bev Fiddes & Pauline Gibbon from Walmley GC, both teams scored 83 points.

Congratulations to the winning pair  Peter Rawlings and Paul Driver both from Cosby Golf Club.

From a full field of 87 pairs starting off the day at 7.30am, the pairing of Keith James & Roy Massey took the lead early on in the day with their tremendous score of 48 points, and it looked like they had clinched the 'winners spot' when  the penulitmate group handed in their card with a fantastic 49 points!  This score was carded by Peter Rawlings and Paul Driver which took 'top spot' leaving Keith and Roy in 2nd place.!!!
In 3rd place was MIke Remmington & Steve Hemmings with 46 points.  4th -7th place was decided on countback, all four pairs with 44 points.  With a back nine score of 24 points it was down to back six score of 18 points for Fred & Alan Butler who took 4th whilst Hugh Dennis & Nick Jones with back sic of 15 points took 5th place.  With equal back nine scores of 23, it was between Reg Dann & Dave Crossley and Terry Haynes & Don Stanley.Onto back six count back which gave Reg & Dave 6th place with 16 points and Terry & Don with 14 points (B6)

Open Am Am Rumble on Thursday 26th June - RESULTS 

The Annual Am Am Rumble was held at Stoneleigh on Thursday 26th June with teams travelling from as far as Royal Winchester GC and Herefordshire GC to join in the day.

Congratulations to the Winners from Stoneleigh, Graham Miles, Laurie Cooke, Dave Crossley and Nick Kirby with their tremendous score of 111 points.

Runners-up with 108 points were Alan Matthews (Maxstoke GC), Carl MIllward (Hill Top GC), Dean Tilson (Hill Top GC)  and Peter Brown (Robin Hood GC).

In 3rd place was the team of Pete Bilic, Gordon Mathias, Johnny Reay & Harry Smith all from Stoneleigh with 107 points.

 Nearest the Pin on 9th holes was won by John Hodgetts (Herefordshire GC), 11th hole was won by Phil Jordan (Handsworth GC), 13th hole by Mary Wells (Coventry GC) anf 15th hole was won by Janet Williams (Royal Winchester GC)

Longest Drive on 10th men was won by Ralph Punscheon (Wharton Park GC) and ladies by Sheila Rehorn (Royal Winchester GC)
